Cape Clear Island (Fasnet Rock)

Fastnet colt wins £200,000 Newmarket contest

Fastnet’s Rock’s bright start to the European season continued at Newmarket on Thursday when Ryan Moore brought Cape Clear Island (3c Fastnet Rock-Kushnarenkovo, by Sadler´s Wells) with a well-timed run to win the £200,000 Tattersalls Millions 3yo Trophy. The Aidan O’Brien-trained colt holds several big-race entries, including in the G1 Irish 2,000 Guineas, G1 Irish Derby and G2 Dante Stakes, and he could now go on the Classic trail. Joint-owner Michael Tabor said: “He’s a nice horse, hopefully he will improve on that and we will see what happens. He could go for the Derby trials at either York or Chester if he is good enough but we will discuss it with Aidan.” Cape Clear Island was winning day after Fastnet Rock’s son Fascinating Rock (4c Fastnet Rock-Miss Polaris, by Polar Falcon) won the Listed Heritage Stakes at Leopardstown for trainer Dermot Weld.
