Europe’s first breeze-up sale of 2018 at Ascot on Thursday was headed by a son of Excelebration who caught the eye of many buyers.
Out of the Oasis Dream mare Wooded Glade, he was offered from Danny Benson’s Dunsany Stables having impressed in his workout at Ascot racecourse on Wednesday.
Several would-be purchasers tried for the February-born juvenile, bred in Ireland by A Techniki, but it was agent Alex Elliott who had the successful bid of £120,000.
“He was a big, strong, man of a horse, very typical of his sire who is really starting to catch the eye,” said Elliott, who was acting for the Excel Racing syndicate. The colt will go into training with George Scott in Newmarket.
Benson was delighted with the result and added: “He has always been a very nice horse since day one of buying him at Fairyhouse. The prep went really well and it was smooth sailing this week. It has been my best day so far since starting pinhooking and I hope he is lucky for his new connections.”
