Red Hanrahan (Yeats) winning a 4yo gelding maiden point-to-point at Durrow

£155,000, £150,000 for Yeats 4yos

A pair of winning pointers by Yeats proved hot properties at Brightwells’ flagship April Sale at Cheltenham on Friday when each bringing six figures. Inspired Poet (4g Yeats-Petralona, by Alleged), an eight-length winner at Templemore earlier in the month for Willie Slattery, is set to join Willie Mullins after making £155,000. Harold Kirk, acting for Mullins, outbid the likes of Matt Coleman and Tom Malone for the half-brother to exciting hurdler Minella Rocca. “We’ve bought several top-class horses off Willie Slattery, including Cooldine, Quel Esprit and Faugheen,” Kirk told the Racing Post. “This horse won his point-to-point very well and has a fantastic page.” Malone had more luck when getting Red Hanrahan (4g Yeats-Monty´s Sister, by Montelimar) for £150,000. The four-year-old scored by 12 lengths at Durrow on March 28 (pictured) for trainer Virginia Considine. “I’m delighted to have got him and he’s for a new client to stay in Britain. I hope he could end up being good value as he came highly recommended,” said Malone. “Although there were only six runners in the point-to-point he won, he was hugely impressive and quickened really well to put the race to bed. He’s exciting.” It was a great result for Considine, who has only six pointers in training, and she added: “It’s a fantastic result and easily the best sale I’ve ever had. He had everything as a three-year-old - he was very powerful and strong with a great, loose action.”
