17-length success for Scorpion gelding on chasing debut

It's A Close Call (Scorpion) winning over fences at Chepstow

The Paul Nicholls-trained It’s A Close Call (6g Scorpion-Sherin, by Surumu) looked a high-class chasing prospect when scoring by 17 lengths on his first start over fences at Chepstow on Sunday.

Graham Roach’s Scorpion gelding won two of his three starts over hurdles and looks like he could be even better over the larger obstacles after this success under Sam Twiston-Davies,

“I´m thrilled with It´s A Close Call,” said Nicholls. “It was only his fourth start under Rules and he jumped really well. He´ll improve for what he´s done there.  We just wanted to get the freshness out of him. He was a bit novicey at the first down the straight, but he settled and galloped on well.”

Bred by M Mahon and a winning point-to-pointer, It’s A Close Call had been sold for €130,000 at the 2012 Tattersalls Ireland Derby Sale.
