20-length winning pointing debutant for Champs Elysees

Fullasthesea (4g Champs Elysees-Pentatonic, by Giant’s Causeway) looked a highly-exciting prospect for Champs Elysees when winning his first start on Saturday. The Michael Goff-trained four-year-old coasted home 20 lengths clear of Getaway’s son Overworkdunderpaid (4g Getaway-Another Whiparound, by Saddlers’ Hall) in the Maralin point-to-point. There was another 20 lengths back to the third. The winner is likely to be offered at auction and looks sure to have many admirers.

P2P.ie commented: “A very taking debut performance from the British-bred Champs Elysees gelding Fullasthesea in the hands of Shane Fitzgerald who extends his advantage at the top of the Novice riders’ leaderboard. Making his move to pick up the lead on the approach to the second-last, the bay gelding lengthened his advantage to the last to score impressively in a race which saw just three finishers. Winning connections reported that the Francis Fenlon-owned gelding would head to the sales next.”

Getaway, sire of the runner-up, made a splash at Cheltenham’s sale on Thursday evening when Lismore winner The Dellercheckout (4g Getaway-Loreley, by Oscar) was bought by owner John Hales for £260,000.
