Topping the opening session of the 2013 NZB Select Yearling Sale on Wednesday was a colt from the first Southern Hemisphere bred crop of Group I winner Thewayyouare.
Consigned for sale by Kilmore Farm, the colt from Group III placed City Affair sold for $200,000 to the bid of Hong Kong based buyer Magus Equine.
“As usual every year I like to buy the first season sires because you are spending the same money with the first crop and you can buy the best one because there is not as much demand,” commented Magus Equine principle Willie Leung.
“Thewayyouare is the first season sire I’m looking for this year because I like Kingmambo, it’s an American pedigree but he raced well in France and he’s a precocious type and I think that will go well in Hong Kong.
“I thought this was the best colt in Select. He has an athletic build and he looks more like a three-year-old type so I will give him some more time to strengthen here in New Zealand before taking him up to Hong Kong.”
The colt is a half-brother to stakes-placed Keen Affair and is from a half-sister to the dam of Group III winner Imana.
