£200,000 son of Scorpion stars at Cheltenham Sale

Scorpiancer winning at Kildorrery

Runaway point-to-point winner Scorpiancer (5g Scorpion-Janebailey, by Silver Patriarch) was the early star at Brightwells’ new Cheltenham Festival Sale after racing on Thursday evening.

The son of Scorpion scored by 10 lengths at Kildorrery on February 23 for trainer Eugene O’Sullivan and changed hands for £200,000 on Thursday night when knocked down to Gearoid Costelloe, partner of trainer Rebecca Curtis.

“We’ll take him home and see what we’ve got when we get there, but I should think he will go out in a field for now. Rebecca will train him, but I can’t tell you the new owner’s name because it hasn’t yet been decided who will have him,,” Costelloe told EBN.

Scorpiancer, who was bred by Mary O’Connor, showed a good profit for O’Sullivan, who bought the Scorpion gelding for 26,000 euros as a store at the 2012 Goffs Land Rover Sale.
