250,000 euros Scorpion gelding tops Derby Sale

A fantastic Tattersalls Ireland Derby Sale for Scorpion’s first crop was crowned on Friday when the son of Montjeu was responsible for the €250,000 top lot.

Bred by Ted Kelly out of the Presenting mare Fair Present, he soon rocketed past his €27,000 yearling cost when offered from Abbey Stables.

Trainer Henry de Bromhead, acting for Alan and Ann Potts, eventually struck the successful bid, with M V Magnier coming off second best.

“We saw this horse yesterday morning and we were quite excited by him. He’s an outstanding individual by a really exciting young stallion and he’s been bought for Alan Potts,” de Bromhead told EBN.

It was a brilliant sale for Scorpion, who also jointly topped the opening day with a €130,000 three-year-old bought by Aiden Murphy to join Paul Nicholls.
