Five-time Group I winner Duke of Marmalade featured as the sire of a smashing colt from Statement that made $300,000 during the second session of the 2012 Magic Millions Yearling Sale on Thursday.
Bred and offered for sale by Reavill Farm, the powerful bay colt caught the eye of astute trainer Gerald Ryan and is bred to be out running early as his dam Statement was a former slick juvenile.
A Group II placed daughter of Golden Slipper winning sire Rory’s Jester, Statement is a half-sister to Group II Canberra Black Opal Stakes winner Zadok.
“He was a really lovely colt. I didn’t think I’d have to go that far to get him, but he was such a good mover that he obviously made plenty of appeal to a lot of people,” said Gerald Ryan.
“I saw this colt when he was three weeks old at Reavill and he was a ripper then and I’ve seen him a number of times since and he’s just kept on improving.
“I’ve always loved the stallion – he’s impressed me every time I’ve been to Coolmore to see him. He was a great racehorse and really fills the eye when you look at him, so I’m just delighted to have got him and of course he’s come from a farm that I’ve had great success with in the past.”
