The first foal of former star mare Melito found favour with buyers at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale on Friday, the colt by Encosta de Lago fetching $400,000.
Bred and consigned for sale by Coolmore, the dashing bay colt was bought by leading Japanese breeder Katsumi Yoshida.
The colt is the first foal of Redoute’s Choice mare Melito, a dual Group I winner of $1.9 million, who was purchased by Coolmore for $1.65 million at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale in 2012.
After producing the colt, Melito was sent to the Northern Hemisphere to be covered by Galileo.
Also starring for Encosta de Lago was a filly bred the same way being from Redoute’s Choice mare Fiction, a daughter of Golden Slipper winner Polar Success.
Bred and consigned by Newhaven Park, the filly fetched $390,000 when bought by Danny Bougoure.
