The first crop of yearlings by More Than Ready’s Grade I winning son Verrazano were warmly welcomed at the 2017 Keeneland September Yearling Sales selling for up to $650,000.
Consigned by Paramount Sales and bought by Kerri Radcliffe Bloodstock, the colt is the first foal of Transplendid, a half-sister to Grade III winner Time’s Mistress.
“I think he was a very big, imposing, fast-looking horse,” said Radcliffe.
“He is by a first-season sire, obviously. I am a big fan of [Verrazano’s sire] More Than Ready, but this is definitely more of an American horse, so he is going to stay here and go to Bob Baffert.
“It is a little more than I expected to pay, but he was such a good-looking individual and obviously everybody else saw that too.”
Also providing a great result was a filly from Timeless offered by Woods Edge Farm and bought by MV Magnier for $575,000, while not far behind was the filly from Search and Seizure that made $425,000 for Lane’s End when bought by Mike Ryan.
Verrazano had some 14 yearlings sell in Books One and Two at an average $211,214.
