Lightly raced colt Adirondack Summer (3c Thunder Gulch x Summer Solstice, by Caerleon) indicated he will be in for a good year with a fast finishing win in the $100,000 Dania Beach Stakes at Gulfstream.
Trained by Christophe Clement, Adirondack Summer was a runaway winner on debut at Belmont in October and then finished an unlucky second at Belmont in November before lining up in this Black Type event at just his third start.
Allowed to get back in the field by Alan Garcia, Adirondack Summer came with a big run down the outside in the straight to snatch a narrow win on the line in this mile contest on turf.
“He was very unlucky not to have won his last start,” Christophe Clement said.
“I was concerned that he was as far back as he was early in the race, but with the pace up front, it worked out for the best. I haven’t thought about his next race. We’ll enjoy this one for now.”
The 70th stakes-winner for his Kentucky Derby winning sire Thunder Gulch, Adirondack Summer was a $38,000 yearling purchase from Fasig-Tipton August and runs for Peter Deusch.
Adirondack Summer is the first stakes-winner for his dam, the French stakes-winner Summer Solstice, a half-sister by Caerleon to dual Group I winner Act One.
