Debut Juvenile Winner for Fastnet

Champion sire Fastnet Rock has had a great run with his two year-olds this year and debut winner Akheron (2c Fastnet Rock x Gambei, by Dehere) is his tenth Australian juvenile winner of the season.

The Simon Miller trained colt opened his account with an easy length victory in the 1200 metre maiden at Ascot over Street Cry gelding Monsoon, who is interestingly related to the winner.

Retained to race by his breeders after passing in at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale when consigned by Segenhoe Stud, Akheron is a half-brother to stakes-winner Reprisal and three other stakes-placed horses being the fifth winner and final foal from good producer Gambei, who died last year.

One of those stakes horses from Gambei is Europa Point, who is the dam of the runner-up Monsoon.

A four time winner in Perth, Gambei is a half-sister by Dehere to Group I winner Special Harmony, Group II winner King Canute and stakes-winner Redwoldt being from the super producing Group III winner Marooned Lady.

Fastnet Rock has enjoyed much success with his Australian juveniles this year including Group I winner Catchy, Group II winner Shoals, Group III winner Formality and unbeaten stakes-winner Merchant Navy.
