Champion First Crop Sire elect Dunkirk added a new winner to his burgeoning tally when Kala Ryan (2f Dunkirk x Dance Academy, by Royal Academy) saluted at Churchill Downs on Sunday.
Beaten a head on debut at Keeneland last month, the Bret Calhoun trained filly improved at the second time of asking to forge clear and win over six furlongs by two and a quarter lengths.
Kala Ryan is a half-sister to stakes-winner Frazil being the third winner from Dance Academy, a daughter of stakes-winner Dance for Lucy.
Kala Ryan is the 14th winner for Dunkirk, who leads the North American First Crop Sires List with progeny earnings topping $1million.
A $3.7 million yearling, who was Grade I placed on the track from a limited career of just a handful of starts, Dunkirk has made a huge impression with his first runners and has had his fee raised to $15,000 for 2014.
