It’s been a long time between drinks for talented sprinter Aeronautical (5g Encosta de Lago x Mon Fever, by Fusaichi Pegasus) , the son of Encosta de Lago hitting top form at Randwick on Saturday to win the Listed ATC Razor Sharp Handicap.
Freshened following an unplaced run at Flemington in early October, Aeronautical was fit and ready to fire, slipping up along the inside for Hugh Bowman to win the 1150 metre sprint by a neck.
Owned and trained by Lionel Cohen, Aeronautical was a $100,000 Magic Millions purchase from the draft of Amarina Farm and has won four races and placed five times from 24 starts earning $435,090 in prizemoney.
“He’s had his excuses in the past but there were none today and I was very confident,” said Cohen.
“I must say it was a beautiful ride and that made all the difference. He’ll have a short break now. Maybe he and I can go away for Christmas!”
Bred by Bob and Rosemary Scarborough’s Wood Nook Farm, Aeronautical is from stakes-placed Moon Fever, a half-sister by Fusaichi Pegasus (USA) to stakes-winner Brilliant Bisc from Group I winner Stella Cadente.
Aeronautical is the fourth stakes-winner in Australia this season for champion sire Encosta de Lago, who has 18 entries for Magic Millions in January.
