Another weekend, another big winner for Oscar

Oscar heads into this week’s Cheltenham Festival on a roll and he was responsible for another big winner at Sandown on Saturday when Ambion Wood (6g Oscar-Dorans Grove, by Gildoran) defied top-weight to land a G3 hurdle.

Victor Dartnall’s charge put up a show when always racing prominently to win the 18-runner G3 EBF NH Novices’ Handicap Hurdle Final by five lengths under Denis O’Regan.

The six-year-old, who was bred by Michael O’Dwyer, could make a quick reappearance at the Cheltenham Festival this week in Friday’s G1 Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle.

“We had put his last defeat at Haydock down to the heavy ground but Denis thought it might be better to have him up there rather than in the middle of the field,” Dartnall told Press Association Sport.

“He’ll be a chaser next season but might go to the G1 Albert Bartlett next Friday. I left him in by mistake, and it depends what the ground is like.”
