Ascot debut winner has the Power

William Haggas sent out Cristal Fizz (2f Power-Effervesce, by Galileo) to see off some highly-regarded rivals and win an Ascot six-furlong maiden on her first racecourse start on Friday.

Pat Cosgrave was slowly aware aboard the first-crop Power filly, who was bred by Norelands Stud, but she learned her job well to come away a length clear of her 11 rivals (pictured).

“I was a little bit tardy out of the gates but sneaked into the race nicely. I wanted to be among horses and teach her a bit. Once she got going she picked up really well and you couldn’t have asked for any more than that,” said Cosgrave.

“She’ll improve a bit for sure and hopefully jump better from the gates next time. I was just hands and heels and wanted to give her a nice education. I’m sure seven furlongs would be in her reach in the near future.”

Haggas went on to complete a double for Power when Under Control (2g Power-High Figurine, by High Chaparral) later won a Musselburgh maiden for owner-breeder Des Scott.
