Tough Excelebration filly Rebel Assault (2f Excelebration-Naomh Geileis, by Grand Slam) brought more black-type for her sire on Saturday when winning a competitive event at York.
It was the eighth start of the year for the Mark Johnston-trained filly as she got up in the closing stages of the Listed Rockingham Stakes in the colours of her owner-breeders, Christine Budden and partners.
“We’ve thought a lot of her all season. She’s as tough as old boots,” said Deirdre Johnston, assistant to her husband. “When she went to France last time she missed the break and lost her chance at the start, so we said we’d write that off and try again. We’ll look to see what there is for her before the end of the season.”
