Holy Roman Emperor Paddock Shot

Aussie Group Three Winner for Holy Roman

Versatile Holy Roman Emperor featured at Caulfield on Saturday when his brilliant daughter Sheidel (5m Holy Roman Emperor x Laventour, by Metal Storm) scored a tenacious win in the Group III MRC Northwood Plume Stakes.

Formerly prepared by David Harrison in WA and now with the Hayes/Dabernig parthership, Sheidel carried the Dorrington Farm colours of Robert Crabtree to a well-earned victory.

Cherry ripe at her third run back from a spell, Sheidel was well ridden by James McDonald to post a long neck victory in the 1200 metre sprint, her 13th win from 23 starts with earnings topping $900,000.

“She’s a very honest capable mare and in great form,” said McDonald.

“It won’t be her last win for this carnival.”

Group I goals are on the agenda for Sheidel, who will make a lovely broodmare for Dorrington Farm in the future.

"She's been building up to this and she's got a good record here at Caulfield," Tom Dabernig said.
"She just sat on the pace and was hard and fit and got the job done."

A Group I placegetter when beaten a nose in the Sangster Stakes at Morphettville in May, Saturday's win at Group III level is her greatest winning achievement to date.

"We'll have a look at all of the options now," Dabernig said. "She hasn't been down the straight before but Flemington is an option and I also think she'll handle Moonee Valley."

Sheidel is a half-sister to stakes-winner Latoria and is the best of three winners from ill-fated Laventour, a half-sister by Metal Storm to Group III winner Track Jester.
