Duke Of Marmalade added two more black-type victories to his impressive record on Sunday with Listed winners in both Italy and Germany.
At San Siro in Milan, the Stefano Botti-trained Collateral Risk (3c Duke Of Marmalade-Paint In Green, by Invincible Spirit) – winner of a maiden over nine and a half furlongs – dropped back in trip to a mile to win the Listed Premio Gardone by three lengths. He will now step up to Group company and looks to have a bright Classic season ahead of him.
Botti’s father Alduino told EBN: “The move from 1,900 to 1,600 metres could have been a bit risky, but Collateral Risk has enough speed to run over a mile. The strong pace was a big help, too. He will run the G3 Premio Parioli.”
Collateral Risk, bred by Razza del Velino, led home a 1-2-3 for Coolmore sires with Dress Drive (3c Yeats-Diagon Alley, by Cadeaux Genereux) in second and Slowpoke (3c High Chaparral – Clefairy, by Sri Pekan) taking third.
Meanwhile, at Hoppegarten in Germany, trainer Andreas Wohler sent out the filly Quaduna (4f Duke Of Marmalade-Quelle Amore, by Monsun), to win the Listed Vanjura Rennen in the colours of her breeder Gestut Fahrhof Stiftung. Quaduna scored in G3 company last year and is another who looks set to enjoy a good 2014.
