There was another classy maiden winner for Canford Cliffs on Sunday when Bumbasina (3f Canford Cliffs-New Plays, by Oratorio) came out on top at Gowran Park.
Renzo Forni’s home-bred Bumbasina bore down on front-running Treaty Of Vienna in the final furlong to take the 16-runner contest. Trainer Willie McCreery believes she has now earned a step up in class.
“I thought the ground might be a little bit gone for her,” said McCreery. “If she turns out as good as her half-sister (Dolce Strega) she will be doing OK. She has a good way of going and she is very honest.
“She just realised what she was doing in the last 100 yards, and I liked the way she stuck her head down and galloped on to the line.
“We will try and find a bit of black-type for her somewhere or we might go for a winners of one or a fillies race.”
