Ashiana (Mastercraftsman) winning the G2 Stutenpreis at Baden Baden

Breeders’ Cup could be next for Mastercraftsman G2 winner

Connections are considering a trip to Del Mar in November with progressive Mastercraftsman filly Ashiana (3f Mastercraftsman-Ashantee, by Areion) after her G2 success at Baden Baden on Saturday.

The Peter Schiergen-trained filly, already a dual Listed winner, came out on top in the G2 Stutenpreis, a Breeders’ Cup “Win And You’re In” contest and a tilt at the G1 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf is a possibility.

“We were hoping for a place but she won,” owner Eckhard Suaren told TDN. “We’ll see what we do next but a start in the Breeders’ Cup is a possibility.”

Ashiana was bred in Germany by Hans Wirth and continued a high-profile weekend for Mastercraftsman, whose yearlings were on fire at the previous day’s BBAG sale.

Among those on offer were fillies who realised €250,000 (Suzanne Roberts) and €235,000 (Bertrand Le Metayer).
