Brilliant Debut for Choisir Juvenile

Exciting Makybe Stud homebred Il Cavallo (2c Choisir x Gold Chant, by El Moxie) blitzed his rivals to win in record time on debut at Sandown on Wednesday.

A powerful bay colt by Choisir from Gold Chant, the Peter Moody trained Il Cavalllo settled off the pace and produced an explosive turn of foot in the straight to zoom clear and win by three and three-quarter lengths in 49.30 seconds.

It was a course record time for the 900 metres at Sandown, which was previously held by another two year-old in Go and Go, who also won on debut.

Luke Nolen partnered Il Cavallo and was clearly impressed with the effort of the exciting colt who was sent out favourite.

“He’s got a good racing style, nice ability and a great temperament,” said Nolen.

“He’s headed in the right direction.”

A three-quarter brother-in-blood to champion sprinter and four-time Group I winner Starspangledbanner, Il Cavallo was offered at Inglis Easter last year and passed in shy of his $250,000 reserve so was retained to race.

He is the first winner of stakes-placed Gold Chant, a half-sister by El Moxie to Starspangledbanner, who is of course by Choisir.

Makybe sold the current yearling from Gold Chant, a filly by Fastnet Rock, at Magic Millions earlier this year through the Tyreel draft and she fetched $500,000 to the bid of Chris Waller Racing.

Gold Chant had another filly by Choisir last spring.
