Brilliant winning debut for Holy Roman juvenile

Holy Roman Emperor’s three-year-olds have been flying this season but it was a two-year-old debutant that starred at Newbury on Tuesday night.

The Richard Hannon-trained Maureen (2f Holy Roman Emperor-Exotic Mix, by Linamix) was sent off a well-backed 11/10 favourite for Newbury’s six-furlong maiden and her supporters never had a moment’s worry as the filly coasted home to score by two and a half lengths.

"She is only small but she’s classy and floats over the ground. She’s in the Super Sprint with 8st 2lb and that´s where she’ll run," Hannon told www.racingpost.com

Maureen, who was bred by C McEvoy, will bid to become the second consecutive winner of the valuable Weatherbys Super Sprint for Holy Roman Emperor following Charles The Great (3g Holy Roman Emperor-Jojeema, by Barathea) last year.

The son of Danehill has enjoyed a great season thanks to the likes of G1 1,000 Guineas heroine Homecoming Queen (3f Holy Roman Emperor-Lagrion, by Diesis) and last week’s G3 Jersey Stakes winner Ishvana (3f Holy Roman Emperor-Song Of The Sea, by Bering).
