The Roger Charlton-trained Captain Cat (5g Dylan Thomas-Mother Of Pearl, by Sadler´s Wells) continued on the upgrade when winning the G3 Superior Mile at Haydock on Saturday.
Jockey George Baker was full of praise for the son of Dylan Thomas, who won the G3 Sovereign Stakes at Salisbury in August, as his mount forged a length and a half clear of the field.
“I can’t tell you much he has improved in the last couple of months,” Baker told PA Sport. “I couldn’t believe how well he was travelling, it was like he was in a different league to the rest of them. He’s full of confidence.
“He’s taken a long time for everything to click. He was very impressive today.”
Owner Barry Hurley told the Racing Post: “He is starting to grow into himself now and he is probably in the best shape Roger Charlton has had him, he told me this morning. He will go for the Joel Stakes at Newmarket, a Group 2, now and then I hope he will go to Dubai for the Dubai Duty Free. I think he is a Group 1 horse and we will find out.”
Bred by Azienda Agricola Mediterranea, Captain Cat was bought for 125,000gns by Hurley as a foal at Tattersalls.
