Cheltenham aim for unbeaten Scorpion hurdler Casual Approach

Casual Approach (Scorpion) being led in by connection after winning the Albany Hurdle at Navan

Trainer Gordon Elliott is targeting Cheltenham’s October meeting with Casual Approach (6g Scorpion-Lead’er Inn, by Supreme Leader) after the six-year-old made it two from two over hurdles at Navan on Saturday.

The Scorpion gelding, bred by Philip and Mrs P Heaney, was having his first run since April when getting up to win the Albany Hurdle under Bryan Cooper.

“He’s a nice sort and I wasn’t sure he’d be fit enough today, so it was a nice surprise. We are going to bring him to Cheltenham next month as he’s qualified to run in novice hurdles until the end of October,” said Elliott. “He’s a grand, big horse. The plan was to drop him in and I think he’ll come on from that.”
