A hamstring issue might have kept promising filly Eloping (2f Choisir x Runaway Jesse, by Rory’s Jester) out of the Magic Millions 2YO Classic won by Unencumbered, but there was no sign of that as she cruised home to win the Listed MRC Blue Diamond Preview at Caulfield on Saturday.
A brilliant winner on debut at Bendigo before Christmas, Eloping was having her first run since then and confirmed her potential with a stylish win in the 1000 metre dash.
Trained by Peter Morgan and Craig Widdison, Eloping was not the best to begin, but mustered speed quickly for Steve Baster to shoot through and lead before kicking away to win by a length from filly Lumosty (2f Fastnet Rock x Luminous Eyes, by Bachelor Duke) in 57.67 seconds.
“She still did a little bit wrong and was slowly away, but was not fully wound up,” said Craig Widdison.
“Everything just comes so easy to her.”
A $120,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Southern Cross Breeders draft for Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock, Eloping runs for a big syndicate of women, who might have missed the big bonus at the Gold Coast, but will no doubt take consolation from this win.
Now a winner of two from two with prizemoney topping $100,000, Eloping is a full sister to Group II placed Jesse’s Girl being the second winner from Runaway Jesse, a half-sister by Rory’s Jester to Group III winner All Courage.
Eloping is the 58th stakes-winner for Choisir, who has 10 entries for the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale in Melbourne.
