Progressive filly Wowee (3f Choisir x Zeal, by Zabeel) scored a surprise win in the Group III SAJC SA Fillies Classic at Morphettville on Saturday in a thrilling four horse finish.
Prepared at Ballarat by John Sadler, Wowee had only scored previous wins at Ararat and Yarra Glen so turned in a career best performance to outpoint her rivals and win this 2500 metre staying test by half a neck.
Choisir is not noted as a sire of stayers, so many would have questioned the ability of Wowee to handle such a trip, but pedigree watchers who noted her first two dams are by Zabeel and Sadler’s Wells will be saying.. ah ha!
A modest $23,000 Inglis Scone purchase for Malua Bloodstock from the draft of Amarina Farm, Wowee is the best of three winners from Zeal, a winning half-sister to the dam of stakes-winner Hairy from a European family that features Group I winning Choisir colt Olympic Glory.
Zeal has a filly foal to follow by promising young sire Duke of Maramalade .
Wowee is the 51st stakes-winner for Choisir, whose Australian fee for 2013 is set by Coolmore at $27,500.
