The famed cerise colours of the Ingham family were carried to victory at Rosehill on Boxing Day by royally bred five year-old Republic Lad (5g Encosta de LAgo x Republic Lass, by Canny Lad).
The Chris Waller trained gelding has been consistent of late without winning, but an inspired ride from Jim Cassidy managed to put Republic Lad back in the winner’s circle.
Ridden quietly after jumping poorly, Republic Lad settled back in the field and powered home to win the 2000 metre restricted family in good style.
“Two starts back he was very unlucky, but he’s better ridden back and he got that luck today,” said Chris Waller.
“The ride was a ten out of ten for Jim Cassidy.”
Republic Lad was a $1.2 million purchase for Ingham Racing from the Tyreel Stud draft at the 2008 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale and is one of three winners from dual Group I winner Republic Lass.
