Churchill winning the G1 National Stakes at the Curragh

Churchill outstanding in G1 for Galileo

Churchill (2c Galileo-Meow, by Storm Cat) took the G1 Goffs Vincent O’Brien National Stakes in brilliant style at the Curragh on Sunday and is now a warm order for Classic success in 2017. Ryan Moore cruised clear of dual G2 winner Mehmas to take the seven-furlong contest by an effortless four and a quarter lengths.

The Aidan O’Brien-trained and Michael Tabor, Mrs John Magnier and Derrick Smith-owned winner is now a hot favourite for next season’s G1 2,000 Guineas.

“He´s a very exciting horse. He settled and quickened and I thought that he went like a real miler, but Ryan was adamant that a mile and a quarter would be no problem to him next year either. He has a lot of speed and we always felt that he was a Guineas horse for next year,” said O’Brien.
