Dashing grey mare Ciao Bella (4m Giant’s Causeway x Bella Bellucci, by French Deputy) scored a resounding win in the Grade III Rampart Stakes at Gulfstream on the weekend.
The Todd Pletcher trained daughter of Giant’s Causeway has shown flashes of real brilliance in her previous wins and was overdue for a Black Type success.
Sent out favourite for this 1 and 1/8th mile contest, she bounded to the lead from an inside draw and cruised along comfortably before powering away to the line to win by four and a half lengths.
“It’s a good start to the day,” said trainer Todd Pletcher.
“We were also looking at [the GII Ruffian H. at Aqueduct next Saturday] for Ciao Bella. It was a tough call. I talked it over with Mr. Tabor and decided to keep her here. She was two-for-two over the main track.”
Ciao Bella has the overall record of four wins and three placings from nine starts with prizemoney in excess of $236,000.
Raced by Michael Tabor, the eye-catching mare is bred to be good as a half-brother to Grade II placed Grapelli from Grade II winner Bella Bellucci, a sister to Japanese Grade I winner Kurofone.
Ciao Bella becomes the 122nd stakes-winner for champion sire Giant’s Causeway.
