Dylan Thomas has a whole host of exciting first-crop three-year-olds this year and one of them, Furner’s Green (3c Dylan Thomas-Lady Icarus, by Rainbow Quest), became his sire’s first Group winner at Leopardstown on Sunday.
Aidan O’Brien’s charge, who finished fourth in last season’s G1 National Stakes, justified odds-on favouritism in the G3 2,000 Guineas Trial as he stormed two and three-quarter lengths clear of the field under the trainer’s son Joseph.
Connections are likely to embark on a Classic campaign with the half-brother to 2010 G1 Irish Oaks third Lady Icarus (5m High Chaparral-Lady Icarus, by Rainbow Quest).
“I’m delighted. He travels well and quickens. He got a bit tired last time. We always thought he was a Guineas and French Derby type,” Aidan O’Brien, who also jointly-bred Furner’s Green, told www.irishracing.com
