Excelebration, by far the best son of Exceed And Excel, will join the roster at Coolmore Australia for 2013.
Of all the 3-year-olds of 2011 only the great Frankel was rated superior to him by Timeform. In 2012 it was again only Frankel, arguably the best racehorse in history, who was higher-rated over a mile. The winner of six Group races from 1400m to 1600m, including three Group 1’s, Excelebration also finished runner-up to the Sir Henry Cecil trained wonder-horse on four occasions – three of them at Group 1 level.
“Excelebration is a very good-looking multiple Gr.1 winning miler from the Danehill line so we are delighted that he will be coming down to us. I’ve seen him in the flesh myself and he’s a very good looking horse; big and strong with great quality and a lovely head. All the best breeders in Europe have supported him and I have no doubt that he will prove equally popular here in Australia,” said Coolmore manager Michael Kirwan.
Timeform, who rated him 133 both as a three and four-year-old, noted in their Racehorses of 2012 annual that: “Excelebration was close to being the best miler seen in Europe in recent years, with the obvious exception of Frankel”. They also added that Excelebration’s victory in the G1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot was “one of the best winning displays in the last 20 years or so” in the mile championship event.
Had he not had the misfortune to be foaled in the same year as Frankel, Excelebration would have gone through 13 races between June 2010 and October 2012 with 12 wins and one narrow defeat.
His Timeform rating of 133 makes him the highest rated sprinter/miler ever from the Danehill sire line. A half-brother to a Newmarket Group winner in 2012, Excelebration is from the family of the Irish Classic winners Princess Pati, Sarah Siddons and Ragusa, the latter being a proven sire of Classic winners.
A stud fee will be announced at a later date.
