Improving filly Lady of Shamrock (3f Scat Daddy x Blushing Issue, by Blushing John) scored a career best win in the $150,000 Grade III Providencia Stakes at Santa Anita on the weekend.
The John Sadler trained filly has been in good form this year and won the China Doll Stakes at her previous run so was sent out a hot favourite for this harder assignment.
She chimed in for Mike Smith with a big run, charging to the line to win the 1 1/8th mile contest on turf by two and three-quarter lengths, her overall record now four wins and a third from seven starts with prizemoney of $225,400.
“This filly is really fun to ride because she has quite a turn of foot,” said winning jockey Mike Smith.
“She’s kind of a tall lanky filly, but she gets over the grass unbelievably.”
Her trainer John Sadler was confident of a good run and expects there is more to come for the talented filly.
“We thought we were running the best horse,” he said.
“She’s obviously good on this course. What we’ll try to do is have a nice campaign with her this summer and be back in the fall.”
Raced by Hronis Racing LLC, Lady of Shamrock is a half-sister to Grade II winner Smooth Jazz, stakes-winner She’s Sensational and is one of five winners from Blushing Issue, a half-sister to Grade I winner Royal Chariot.
She is one of a slew of recent smart runners for last year’s US Champion First Season Sire Scat Daddy, joining Grade II UAE Derby winner Daddy Long Legs and Grade III Sunland Derby winner Daddy Nose Best.
