The powerful Chris Waller stable hit the ground running at the ATC metropolitan meeting at Kembla on Wednesday with a promising debut win for Casual Choice (3g Choisir x Lackadaisical, by Star Pyramul).
A handsome chestnut with abundant talent, Casual Choice jumped smartly for Corey Brown and travelled forward before accelerating clear down the running to win the 1000 metre maiden by half a length on the line.
A recent barrier trial winner at Rosehill on January 8, Casual Choice was surprisingly easy in the market, but looks a horse of some potential.
“I was surprised how quickly he got going from the gates as he’s such a big horse,” said Corey Brown.
“Once I let the breaks go in the straight he really lengthened well. There’s more wins in store for him.”
A $75,000 Magic Millions purchase from the draft of Coolmore Stud, Casual Choice runs for a large group of owners put together by Supreme Syndications.
“It was a perfect debut for him,” said Chris Waller.
“He’s been showing ability, but it comes in waves and we’ve seen it on and off, so I’m glad he’s come out and won today.
“His owners have had a positive experience here today and hopefully they’ll reinvest.”
Casual Choice is a half-brother to stakes-winners Napping and Riosand being the eighth winner for good producer Lackadaisical.
