Declaration Of War colt is French champion 2yo

Ultra-consistent Olmedo (3c Declaration Of War-Super Pie, by Pivotal) was named France’s champion two-year-old of 2017 on Tuesday at the unveiling of the World Thoroughbred Rankings.

Trained by Jean-Claude Rouget for Ecurie Antonio Caro and Gerard Augustin-Normand, Olmedo was a brilliant four-length winner on his debut at Deauville in August.

He then looked unlucky in his next start when losing out by a short-head when a fast-finishing second in the G3 Prix des Chenes at Chantilly.

He went on to be a good second to Happily (3f Galileo-You’resothrilling, by Storm Cat), who was in receipt of a 4lb fillies’ allowance, in he G1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at Chantilly.

Held in high regard by Rouget, he looks set to make his mark at a very high level this season.
