Declaration Of War off mark in style

Newmarket trainer Tom Clover celebrated his first winner on Monday evening when Declarationoflove (2c Declaration Of War-Mary’s Daughter, by Royal Applause) got his sire Declaration Of War off the mark as a stallion.

There have been glowing reports from trainers about Declaration Of War’s first crop and this colt put in a polished performance to win the 10-runner novices’ event by a length and a quarter.

“The best feeling ever!” tweeted Clover, who has always held the winner in high regard. He continued: “We have always liked the horse. We’ve got some nice options for him, including the Super Sprint, so we'll have to see.” Jockey Andrea Atzeni was similarly impressed. He added: “Declarationoflove is very straightforward. Everything went smoothly, they went a good gallop. I got a lovely lead into the race and he won quite well.”
