Dominant Grade III Winner for Scat Daddy

For the second year in a row top class young sire Scat Daddy provided the winner of the Grade III $200,000 El Camino Real Derby at Golden Gate, his improving son Dice Flavor (3c Scat Daddy x Afleet Summer, by Afleet) following in the footsteps of last year’s winner Daddy Nose Best.

Prepared by Patrick Gallagher, Dice Flavor charged to the line between runners for Jose Valdivia to win the 1 1/8 mile event by a dominant three and three-quarter lengths.

“He was moving easily all the way,” said Valdivia, who has ridden Dice Flavor at all of his five starts to date.

“He made up a lot of ground and made the lead easily. I’ve felt that he had the physical talent, but mentally he’s not all there. But today he impressed me because if he didn’t accelerate right when that hole opened he would have been stuck.”

A $100,000 purchase as a two year-old, Dice Flavor has the overall record of two wins and two placings from five starts with prizemoney in excess of $160,000.

He is a half-brother to Grade III Swift Warrior and stakes-winner Carolina Sky being from good producer Afleet Summer.

Dice Flavor is the 10th stakes-winner for dual Grade 1 winner Scat Daddy, who stands at a fee of $30,000 this year.
