From TDN Rising Star to Grade I winner, it was all too easy for exciting colt Carpe Diem (2c Giant’s Causeway x Rebridled Dreams, by Unbridled’s Song), who strode clear for a dominant win in the $500,000 Grade I Claiborne Breeders Futurity at Keeneland on the weekend.
A $1.6 million OBS March 2YO Sale purchase, Carpe Diem earned high praise and TDN Rising Star status for his powerful debut win at Saratoga last month and followed it up with another explosive performance at just his second start.
Trained by Todd Pletcher, Carpe Diem ran right away to win the 1 and 1/16th mile contest by more than six lengths emulating the success of his half-brother J.B.’s Thunder, who won the race in 2010.
Winning owner Elliot Walden, President/ CEO of WinStar Farm, said, “He ran great at Saratoga and then to come here in a Grade I like this and put it all together like that around two turns, it’s very exciting.
“This horse is a beautiful horse, he’s got a great pedigree and we hoping to make a stallion. I think we did that today.”
Carpe Diem is a half-brother to Grade I winner J.B.’s Thunder and stakes-winner Doncaster Rover being the fifth winner from stakes-winner Rebridled Dreams.
