€130,000 Scorpion 3yo heads way at Derby Sale

A three-year-old from Scorpion’s first crop jointly headed trade at Fairyhouse on Thursday when selling for €130,000 on the first day of Tattersalls Ireland’s Derby Sale.

British champion trainer Paul Nicholls will train the gelding for Graham Roach after agent Aiden Murphy, acting on their behalf, secured the Lakefield Farm offering.

“He’s been bought for Graham Roach and will eventually go into training with Paul Nicholls. I spoke to Graham earlier in the day and gave him a list of what I thought were the three nicest horses here and we were very pleased to get him. He’s good walking horse with lots of substance and strength,” Murphy told EBN.

The gelding, bred by M Mahon, is a half-brother to bumper winner I Shot The Sheriff (5g Westerner-Sherin, by Surumu) and comes from the family of multiple flat G1 winner Stacelita. He is bred on the same cross as Hurricane Run.

Scorpion’s crops so far have all been well received and other prices on Thursday included €50,000, €42,000 and €40,000.
