Mastercraftsman Close Up

€180,000 Mastercraftsman filly is record-breaker

A daughter of Mastercraftsman became the dearest-ever graduate of the BBAG breeze-up sale at Baden-Baden on Tuesday night when selling for €180,000.

Already named Malibu Beach (2f Mastercraftsman-Spark Sept, by Septieme Ciel), the half-sister to dual G3 scorer Grafelli was bought by a group of Japanese buyers, purchasing as IECA.

Franck Benillouche, speaking to EBN on behalf of the purchasers, said: “The buyers thought her pedigree was very interesting and they really like the progeny of Mastercraftsman. It is possible that she will go to Jim Bolger, seeing as he had such success with Grafelli, but they don’t know yet. She will stay in Europe for the moment and then go to Japan next year. I think she made a good price, which reflects the current market.”

Mastercraftsman has made an excellent to his stud career with winners in Britain, France and Italy already on board.
