A colt from the second crop of Rip Van Winkle topped trading at the 2013 Goffs November Sale when selling for 420,000 euros on Thursday.
Bred by Joan Keaney Dempsey, the Jockey Hall Stud offering is a half-brother to G1 Irish 1,000 Guineas heroine Just The Judge and to 2014 classic hope Obliterator.
The Rip Van Winkle colt is set to race in the same silks as that pair after David Redvers, standing with Sheikh Fahad Al Thani, fought off Blandford Bloodstock’s Tom Goff for the prized offering.
“We’ve taken a gamble as the sire is unproven but we liked the look of his yearlings and this colt ticked all the boxes as a physical specimen,” Redvers told the Racing Post. “He’s very correct, has great action and real presence and he’s a nice one to add to the armory.”
