Exciting Sutton Place wins G3 for Mahler

Sutton Place (6g Mahler-Glebe Beauty, by Good Thyne) made the best possible seasonal reappearance at Naas on Saturday when running away with the G3 Limestone Lad Hurdle. The Mahler gelding, trained by Gordon Elliott for J P McManus, was having his first start since winning a G2 at Fairyhouse in March and he could scarcely have been impressive, winning the two-mile event by seven and a half lengths. “I’d say he’s a fair one and you’d like the way he has galloped to the line. He has improved a good bit from last year and has got stronger and he’s a horse for jumping fences down the road,” said Elliott. The six-year-old, who has won four of his five starts, was bred by James Leahy and realised €45,000 at the 2014 Tattersalls Ireland Derby Sale.
