Fastnet Colt Tops Fourth Session at MM

Riding the crest of a wave, having earlier in the day sired the winner of the $2million Magic Millions 2YO Classic, Fastnet Rock lit up the sale ring again at the Gold Coast on Saturday night. He provided the top lot of the fourth session at the 2012 Magic Millions Yearling Salewhen his colt from Freckled Face fetched $370,000 for Coolmore Stud to the bid of Bevan Laming, who trained the colt’s Group III winning half-brother Face Value. “He's a nice strong colt who is very athletic and looks a great prospect," Laming said. "Obviously I had a lot of success with his half brother Face Value and this bloke is a bit bigger. "He's probably not the style of horse for the 2YO Classic next year, but he could make a later two-year-old. "There is a lot happening in the family at the moment with Halle Rocks and Diamond Earth - Halle Rocks in particular should add some black type there." Halle Rocks and Diamond Earth are from Freckled Face’s stakes-placed daughter Face of the Earth, whose filly by Danehill Dancer also sold well on Saturday night making $310,000 when secured by Gai Waterhouse and James Harron Bloodstock. Both youngsters were bred by Dr Denis O’Brien and his wife Claire and foaled and raised for them at Coolmore. The O’Brien’s have enjoyed tremendous success with this family and have much to look forward to with Freckled Face producing a filly by Henrythenavigator last spring and then being covered by Lookin at Lucky, while Face of the Earth produced a colt foal by Duke of Marmalade and was then covered by Encosta de Lago. Fastnet Rock finished this sale as the second leading sire by average with 27 yearlings averaging $255,370, his best result the top priced lot of the sale, a slashing colt from Rose of Cimmaron that made $960,000 for Edinburgh Park when purchased by Demi O’Byrne and James Bester Bloodstock on behalf of Coolmore.
