Fastnet Filly Aiming at Slipper

Considered unlucky when charging home for third in the Listed ATC Gimcrack Stakes back in the spring, Jade Marauder (2f Fastnet Rock x Jade Diva, by Jade Robbery) confirmed that potential when she stormed home to win at Canterbury on Saturday. The Chris Waller trained filly was resuming from a spell and was sent out favourite for the open juvenile event over 1200 metres, but favourite backers had to endure a few anxious moments before Jade Marauder hit top gear. She jumped well enough, but settled near the rear of the pack for Glyn Schofield, before charging around the field out wide to loom into contention. Despite charting a wide passage, Jade Marauder found the line with enthusiasm to beat talented colt Almighty Charge by a length in an eye-catching win. “She’ll press forward now to the main two year old lead up races for the Golden Slipper,” said Chris Waller. Winning rider Glyn Schofield was impressed with Jade Marauder, although thinks the best of her will be seen next season. “She has three year-old written all over her, although she has such good ability that she’ll no doubt go for the better two year-old races,” said Schofield. “I do feel though that she’ll be more effective as an older horse.” A $500,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Ingham Racing from the Yarraman Park draft, Jade Marauder is the second winner for stakes-winner Jade Diva and is a three-quarter sister to top class filly Bliss Street, a Group III winner in WA at two and again Melbourne in the spring.
