Fastnet Filly Impresses

The Black Caviar family struck again at Warwick Farm on Thursday when heavily backed filly Scandiva (2f Fastnet Rock x Scandinavia, by Snippets) scored a powerful win in the juvenile maiden over 1100 metres. A homebred for Robert Crabtree’s Dorrington Farm, the Anthony Cummings trained Scandiva has been chasing home the likes of Villa Verde, Overreach and Whittington in her first two starts, so found the drop back to maiden company a breeze. Drawn eight in a field of nine, she was ridden forward by Peter Robl to settle second and then accelerated smartly in the straight to forge clear and win by two lengths in class record time. “She had to do some work from the gate, but Peter rode her well and she’s done a good job,” said stable foreman, Edward Cummings. “She wasn’t nominated for the Golden Slipper, but she’ll go to the Magic Night and if she were to win, she’d certainly take part.” Scandiva is the fifth winner from Group III winning Snippets mare Scandinavia, whose best offspring are headed by Group I winning sprinter Magnus and Group II winner Wilander, not mention unraced Helsinge, the dam of world champion Black Caviar and superstar colt All Too Hard.
