Fastnet Rock Colt Aiming Towards Slipper

Champion trainer Gai Waterhouse produced another Golden Slipper contender at Randwick on Saturday when the 2013 Magic Millions sale-topper Valentia (2c Fastnet Rock x Smart Company, by Mister C) opened his account. By champion sire Fastnet Rock from Smart Company, Valentia showed ability on debut when chasing home boom colt Rubick for third and stepped it up again for this 1200 metre assignment. He jumped fast and settled just off the pace before finishing strongly to win by a neck with Tommy Berry in the saddle. Stable representative Mark Newnham indicated that Valentia would now be given his shot to make the Golden Slipper field. "Quality colt, taken really good improvement from his first run, really well bred nice animal and looks like he will keep improving,” he said. "I liked the way he really applied himself over the last 200 (metres) because he had to do a job and get past the other horse but he really showed some fighting qualities. "He’s a promising horse and will go to the Slipper along with our other two-year-olds.” Raced by Coolmore and partners, Valentia was purchased for $1.35 million from the Lomar Park draft at Magic Millions. A half-brother to stakes-placed Divine Choice, Valentia is from Smart Company, a full sister to Group I winner Super Elegant, Group II winner Elegancy and Group III winner Mister Elegant.
