Fastnet Rock Filly Tops Great Southern Weanling Sale

Poised to be Champion Australian Sire for 2011/2012, Fastnet Rock starred in Melbourne on Tuesday when his filly from Chelsey’s Image (USA) topped the 2012 Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale. Bred and offered by Burnewang North Pastoral, the filly was purchased by bloodstock agent Steve Brem for $145,000. Another filly from an imported stakes winner, this time by Encosta de Lago from Les Ry Leigh (USA), recorded the day’s second highest price when selling to Belmont Bloodstock for $130,000 and was also bred and sold by Burnewang North. Both weanlings were sold to dissolve a partnership and will return to Burnewang North. “We are very pleased to have withstood spirited outside interest to retain them with a view to developing them as yearling prospects for next year,” said Cathy Hains of Burnewang North. “Both are early foals from high quality USA bred mares. “Burnewang North is an exceptional nursery with some exciting results starting to emerge from the small commercial drafts sold after our establishment in 2006/07. “We look forward to presenting these quality fillies as part of our 2013 yearling draft.”
