Talented colt Good Luck Gus (3c Looking at Lucky x Tacticmove, by Deputy Minister) scored a lucrative win in the $250,000 Albany Stakes at Saratoga on Friday.

Prepared by Rudy Rodriguez, Good Luck Gus was a stakes-winner last year and hit his best form in this 1 and 1/8th mile assignment.

He travelled back off the pace and was able to overcome some traffic issues to dash clear and win by half a length.

“He was coming into the race very good,” said Rudy Rodriguez.

“He’s been training very good. We’ve been pointing him to this race all along. He won at Saratoga a year ago, I had entered him for [main track only] on the grass to see if we could get a race before this one because it’s a long race, but he’s been working super over here. I’m glad to see him win here that’s for sure.”

Good Luck Gus has the smart record of four wins and three seconds from 10 starts with prizemoney topping $513,000.

A $97,000 Fasig-Tipton August Yearling, Good Luck Gus is the second winner for Tacticmove, a half-sister to Grade II winner Cat Fighter from dual Grade I winner Strategic Maneuver.

A pair of exciting three-year-olds trained by Aidan O’Brien completed a G3 double for Galileo at the Curragh on Sunday

Found (3f Galileo-Red Evie, by Intikhab), last season’s G1 Prix Marcel Boussac heroine, is set to return to Longchamp in October for the G1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe after easily winning the G3 Kilfrush Stud Royal Whip Stakes (pictured).

“She quickens very well,” said O’Brien. “You’d have to be very happy with that. Jim (Bolger)’s horse (Answered) is very solid and took her a good gallop. I was worried she might get a bit tired running first time after a break. She didn’t obviously and Seamus (Heffernan) was very happy.

“The plan was to come here and then have a look at the G1 Prix Vermeille or G1 Irish Champion Stakes with an eye on the Arc. That was always the plan and we didn’t want to stretch her in distance until after Ascot and try to give her as easy a time as we could.

“She’s by Galileo and out of a good miler and we always hoped that she’d get a mile and a half. You never know but she got a mile and a quarter well today.”

Later on the card, O’Brien sent out Order Of St George (3c Galileo-Another Storm, by Gone West) to run away with the G3 Palmerstown House Estate Irish St Leger Trial. The $550,000 yearling purchase holds an entry in the G1 St Leger at Doncaster.

Classy galloper Appealing Tale (5g Tale of the Cat x Appealing Bride, by Unbridled’s Song) notched his biggest win when taking out the $245,000 Grade II Pat O’Brien Stakes at Del Mar on the weekend.

The Peter Miller trained gelding has been racing well against tough opposition and broke through for his first Black Type success when leading throughout to win this seven furlong contest on dirt by half a length.

With an overall record of five wins and 12 placings from 24 starts with prizemoney of $533,222, Appealing Tale is headed for a tilt at the Grade I Breeders Cup Mile on dirt.

“I felt really good when I saw the :23 1/5 [quarter mile],” said Peter Miller.

“He’s such a fighter this horse, he loves a dogfight, and when they came up next to him I knew he wouldn’t give up. I felt pretty confident all the way. We’re pointing for the [Breeders’ Cup] Dirt Mile. He’s such a game horse and he can go anywhere from seven-eighths to a mile and a sixteenth, so the mile is right in his wheelhouse.”

Appealing Tale is the 99th stakes-winner for veteran sire Tale of the Cat and is a half-brother to stakes-winner Colerful Bride from Appealing Bride.

The regally-bred Ballydoyle (2f Galileo-Butterfly Cove, by Storm Cat) put in a polished performance to take the G2 Debutante Stakes at the Curragh on Saturday, in the process rocketing to the front of betting markets for next year’s 1,000 Guineas.

A Newmarket maiden winner on her previous start, the sister to four-time G1 winner Misty For Me, led home a 1-2 for her sire Galileo when seeing off the improving Minding (2f Galileo-Lillie Langtry, by Danehill Dancer). Most Beautiful (2f Canford Cliffs-Saphira´s Fire, by Cape Cross), from the first-crop of Canford Cliffs, was a neck back in third.

Ballydoyle is now 8/1 favourite for the 2016 G1 1,000 Guineas and winning rider Joseph O’Brien commented: “She’s a very nice filly. She jumped and travelled. I made the running and thought I went a nice even gallop. It was never really in doubt.

“She’s a big long striding filly. She has a great pedigree and is genuine. She ticks all the boxes. The G1 Moyglare Stud Stakes is the obvious race. She has a lot of pace and could came back to six if she had to but I don’t imagine she’ll be doing that. She has a big engine.”

Trainer David O’Meara is set to step Mondialiste (5h Galileo-Occupandiste, by Kaldoun) up in company after the son of Galileo took the G3 Strensall Stakes at York on Saturday.

Bred by the Wertheimer brothers, Mondialiste finished third in the G1 Prix Jean Prat as a three-year-old, and looks back to his best after this stylish victory. He was bought by owners Geoff and Sandra Turnbull for 190,000 euros at Arqana in July last year.

“We thought he’d see the trip out well and as it turned out he needed every yard of it to get on top,” said O’Meara. “We’ll have a look at going up another furlong maybe. We’ve got the G2 Joel Stakes at Newmarket as an option or the G2 Daniel Wildenstein in France. We haven’t looked at the 1m 2f options yet, but we may have to now.”

Gutsy filly Nakuti (4f Mastercraftsman-Sheba Five, by Five Star Day) became the latest Group-race scorer for Mastercraftsman when seeing off a classy field to win Sandown’s G3 Atalanta Stakes on Saturday.

Sporting the colours of Nelius Hayes, the Sylvester Kirk-trained filly edged her way through some tough opponents and held off the fast-finishing Blond Me to land the spoils.

“They went fast early on and she had no chance with that, so she had to sit and wait. That ground must be a bit dead as she loved it and really toughed it out,” said Kirk.

“She has improved and got bigger and stronger as she has got older. I am thankful the owner kept her in training as they were going to send her off to stud at the end of her three-year-old career. We might go over to France with her now to try and get a bit of that ground.”

Nakuti, a Listed winner on her previous outing, was bred by Eamonn McEvoy.
