Felix Yonger (9g Oscar-Marble Sound, by Be My Native) added a fourth G2 success to his CV when capturing the G2 Webster Cup Chase at Navan on Saturday.
Willie Mullins’ charge took the lead two fences out in the two and a half mile race and, despite getting close to the final obstacle, he scored easily by three and three-quarter lengths under Ruby Walsh.
Andrea and Graham Wylie’s son of Oscar could now be aimed at the G1 boylesports.com Champion Chase at the Punchestown Festival.
“I was very happy to see him going on that ground. It was very sticky heavy ground and I didn’t think he’d go on it,” said Mullins. “The fact that he’s won over two-and-a-half on that means we could open up in trip more on better ground.
“I’m not sure where he’ll go next but he’ll get an entry for the Champion Chase at Punchestown. He’s improving.”
Felix Yonger, who was bred by J Brophy, was notching up his third G2 success over fences and was also a G2 novice hurdle winner.
